Current Volunteer Opportunities

When you come to a DMS show, as well as the performers, the people who welcome you at the door, work in the canteen, assist backstage, produce and direct, are all volunteers, doing it for the love of the arts. We thank each and every one of them for all their help and support. Without them we could not survive.

Why not get involved and join our family of volunteers!

PerformersWe are always looking for people enthusiastic about acting, singing and dancing on stage. You are welcome to register for audition notices via our website.

Director/Choreographer/Musical Director – If you have a passion for a particular play or musical, let us know!  Please send through some information about yourself and details of the show you are interested in.

Costume Making and Coordination – A key aspect of all our productions is the oversight, design and making of costumes for our performers.  These roles are important from day one of rehearsals, so if you are interested in this area, we would love to hear from you.

Stage Manager – Responsible for planning, organising and supervising the set and all cast movement on and off stage.

Lighting and Sound Management – Responsible for working with the Director to design, create and then run the lighting and sound equipment during performances.  We are interested in volunteers who are interested in either Stage Lighting or Sound technician roles, or both.

Set Construction – Responsible for building the set as required by the Director and Stage Manager.  If you are handy with tools, creative, and want to be involved behind the scenes, this is certainly a valuable way to spend your time.

Backstage Crew – People who prepare and manage the set, move furniture and props on and off the stage, help cast with quick changes and work generally as directed by the Stage Manager.

Front of House Staff – A very important role greeting patrons, selling raffle tickets and serving in the canteen.  No experience is necessary as all tasks can be easily learnt.

Box Office – Look after our ticketing system, greet patrons as they arrive at our front desk, and sell tickets.

As a DMS Volunteer, you will need to become a member of the Society which gives you insurance cover while working at the venue preparing for a show or engaged in one of our working bees.  All volunteers will also receive a couple of complementary tickets for the show they are working on.  You will have access to our newsletters and get invitations to any special events that we run.  Annual membership is for one year from the date joined and applications/ payment can be made via our website.

As financial members you are also entitled to vote for the following year’s committee at the AGM (Annual General Meeting). If you have some special skills (management, marketing, artistic, technical, etc.) or are just keen to be part of the team that helps DMS grow, then we encourage you to nominate for a place on our committee.  Nominations for committee may be submitted at the AGM.

If you have any questions about membership or the committee, please feel free to contact us using the Contact form on this website.
